❄️ Freezethawed: The Newsletter #054 - Type 1 vs. Type 2 fun

Hello everyone!

Have a look at this photo.

I came across this photo on social media, which reminded me of Type 1 and Type 2 fun, which a read about a long time ago. Let me explain.

Type 1 fun

Type 1 fun is like playing a video game. It is a truckload of fun while you are doing it, accompanied by a massive dopamine hit. But then, 4 hours later, you end up feeling really bad about yourself for wasting all that time.

Type 2 fun

Type 2 fun is like learning how to ski. It is painful in the beginning, with your feet feeling like there are logs are attached to them. Sometimes, all you are wondering is - when will this end? But, once it is over, you’ve learned how to ski and there is a definite serotonin hit. You look back on it and tell yourself the experience was, indeed fun.

Moral?

But types of 'fun' exist and are necessary. Recognize Type 1 fun early and curb it before it gets the better of you. Meanwhile, incorporate more instances of Type 2 fun in your life. That’s all for this week.

See you next week,

Anujeet.
